Bacolod lone district Rep. Albee Benitez welcomed the impending change in leadership in the House of Representatives, calling it “the best way to move forward.”
“That’s a good move, that is probably the best way to move forward para at least makita na natin at mahanap ang mga katotohanan sa problema that’s rocking the House,” Benitez said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno announced that beleaguered Speaker Martin Romualdez would be stepping down, with Isabela 6th District Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III being touted to replace him.
Dy belongs to Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
Benitez reiterated that he has been calling for a change in leadership in the Lower House, which he said was necessary for “a new image” amid the controversy on the government’s flood control projects.

There have been allegations of Romualdez’ involvement in flood control corruption and budget insertions, which have prompted Benitez to demand transparency and accountability from the House leadership.
As to the expected change in committee chairmanships and deputy speakerships, the lawmaker said that he will await the new Speaker’s decisions on the matter.
“Hintayin natin kung ano ang magiging desisyon ng bagong Speaker –may mga issues tayo doon– at ano ang gagawin niya,” he said.
