The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has surpassed its revenue target for the first six months of 2025, collecting ₱1.554 trillion from January to June—₱4.594 billion above target and 14.11 percent higher than the same period last year.
The Commissioner credited tax reforms for the continued strong performance of the agency, highlighting new measures that broaden the tax base.
He explained that “dahil sa mga reporma sa buwis tulad ng VAT on Digital Services, CREATE MORE Act, at CMEPA, patuloy nating pinalalawak ang revenue base upang matiyak na maaabot at mahihigitan natin ang target para sa buong taon.”
“Patuloy kaming magsisilbi nang tapat at mahusay para sa mas maunlad na Pilipinas,” added the BIR chief, who has been recognized for aggressively pushing enforcement, digitalization, and taxpayer service reforms.
However, Lumagui has credited the dedication of BIR employees as a major factor in the agency’s performance. During the BIR’s 121st founding anniversary earlier this month, he emphasized that “what we’re really celebrating is not just 121 years of service — but the people who have given this Bureau its strength, day in and day out.”
