BOC COMMITS TO PROTECT BORDERS VS DRUG SMUGGLERS

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) successfully secured a conviction in a major drug smuggling case, underscoring its commitment to protecting the nation’s borders and upholding the rule of law, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directives for stricter enforcement against illegal drugs.

The Regional Trial Court of Manila found Muktasil Abundol Assimudin, Emmanuel Paulo Delos Reyes Landicho, and George Sim Fernandez guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating Section 1401(g) in relation to Section 118(g) of Republic Act No. 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, and imposed upon each of them the penalty of reclusion perpetua and a fine of fifty million pesos (₱50,000,000).

The case originated from the seizure of approximately 146.81 kilograms of illegal drugs, with an estimated value of ₱998,306,096, which arrived at the Manila International Container Port in January 2019.
