BONG GO AIDS PUERTO PRINCESA FIRE VICTIMS

Senator Bong Go, through his team, extended assistance to families displaced by two separate fire incidents in Barangay Bagong Sikat and the Old Public Market in Barangay Tagumpay, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Beyond immediate relief, the senator stressed the importance of safety and preparedness following the fires that struck Barangay Bagong Sikat and the Old Public Market in Barangay Tagumpay recently.

“Ang gamit ay mabibili natin ‘yan, ang pera, kikitain nyo ‘yan kung magsusumikap lang tayo.”

“Ang lagi ko pong sinasabi, ang gamit ay mabibili natin ‘yan, ang pera, kikitain n’yo ‘yan kung magsusumikap lang tayo. Pero ang perang kikitain ay hindi mabibili ang buhay,” Go said in a video call.

The distribution of assistance was held at the Barangay Tagumpay Covered Court in Puerto Princesa City.

In coordination with 1Tahanan Partylist Representative Nathaniel Oducado, Councilor Elgin Damasco, Barangay Tagumpay Captain Victor Dela Cruz, and Barangay Bagong Sikat Captain Alberto Alib, the veteran legislator’s team distributed financial assistance, grocery packs, shirts, pens, fans, jackets, and balls to eight affected households from Barangay Bagong Sikat and 131 families from Barangay Tagumpay, helping address both immediate needs and basic household safety.

The seasoned lawmaker also acknowledged the efforts of national government agencies conducting on-site assessments to ensure that affected families receive adequate support.

The senator further highlighted Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which was signed into law on December 6, 2024. The measure mandates the establishment of permanent, safe, and well-equipped evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities nationwide.

“These centers are designed to protect the dignity, safety, and well-being of disaster-affected families while accelerating recovery and rehabilitation efforts.”

As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law, he emphasized that these centers are designed to protect the dignity, safety, and well-being of disaster-affected families while accelerating recovery and rehabilitation efforts.

Go also underscored RA 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act, which he likewise principally authored and co-sponsored. The law provides for a ten-year modernization program that includes the hiring of additional personnel, acquisition of modern firefighting equipment, and enhanced training to strengthen fire prevention, safety awareness, and emergency response capabilities across the country.

“Tandaan natin, minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan o tulong na puwede nating gawin sa ating kapwa ay gawin na natin ngayon dahil hindi na tayo babalik sa mundong ito,” he concluded.
