Senator Bong Go highlighted the growing role of e-sports in youth development and national sports policy as he co-sponsored a resolution commending Aurora Gaming PH for its landmark victory in the M7 World Championship of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Go framed the achievement as both a global affirmation of Filipino excellence and a concrete example of how emerging digital sports can create discipline-driven opportunities for the country’s youth.
As Chairperson of the Senate Committees on Sports and on Youth, and one of the authors of Senate Resolution No. 276, the veteran legislator formally co-sponsored the measure recognizing Aurora Gaming PH’s decisive 4–0 sweep of Indonesia’s Alter Ego Esports in the best-of-seven Grand Finals held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The victory marked Aurora Gaming PH’s first Mobile Legends world championship title and further extended the Philippines’ strong track record in top-level international e-sports competition.
The seasoned lawmaker anchored his intervention on the formal purpose of the resolution and his committee responsibilities.
“Mr. President and distinguished colleagues, a pleasant afternoon to all of you! As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports and one of the authors of the resolutions, it is with great pride and honor that I co-sponsor this measure commending and congratulating Aurora Gaming PH for their historic victory in the M7 World Championship of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang,” the veteran lawmaker said.
The senator then contextualized the rise of Mobile Legends within the country’s evolving sports landscape, underscoring the high-level competencies demanded by e-sports.
“It is a modern arena where excellence and national pride are fiercely contested.”
“Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has grown into one of the most widely played and globally recognized e-sports here in the country, demanding not only quick reflexes, but also strategic thinking, and teamwork at the highest level. It is a modern arena where excellence and national pride are fiercely contested,” he noted.
Focusing on youth participation, Go pointed to the widespread engagement of young Filipinos in Mobile Legends and the tangible outcomes that have emerged from the competitive scene.
He further emphasized the broader developmental value of gaming when guided properly.
Detailing Aurora Gaming PH’s performance on the world stage, he described the team’s dominance in Jakarta.
“On this global stage, Aurora Gaming PH stood tall. With a dominant and convincing performance, they defeated Indonesia’s Alter Ego E-sports in a decisive 4–0 sweep in the best-of-seven Grand Finals held in Jakarta, Indonesia, earning their first MLBB world championship title,” Go said.
“Their composure under pressure, tactical brilliance, and unity as a team truly set them apart,” he pointed out.
Go stressed that the win carried significance beyond a single team.
“This victory is not only a triumph for Aurora Gaming PH, but also a reflection of the country’s excellence in Mobile Legends and in E-sports, further strengthening our aspiration for the Philippines to be dubbed as a ‘Sports powerhouse in Asia’,” he said.
Go also highlighted the need for coordination among sports institutions and private stakeholders, particularly as new disciplines continue to emerge.
“Mr. President, this achievement also highlights the importance of bringing together all of our sports agencies, kagaya ng Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, at ang mga pribadong stakeholders para sa kapakanan at tagumpay ng ating mga atleta,” he said.
“When government and the private sector move together, our athletes are empowered to reach their full potential. This is also a challenge to the Philippine Sports Commission and the sports sector to always be dynamic and open to emerging sports in the country,” Go added.
Linking sports participation to social outcomes, he underscored its preventive and formative role among the youth.
“Isang paraan din po ito na ilayo natin ang mga kabataan sa masasamang bisyo: get into sports, stay away from drugs to keep us healthy and fit,” Go said.
“Whether in traditional sports or e-sports, discipline, focus, and teamwork are values that help shape responsible and productive citizens,” he added.
Go also reaffirmed his support for inclusive sports development that recognizes both traditional and digital arenas of competition.
“Mr. President, as we give recognition to Aurora Gaming PH today, we also reaffirm our commitment to supporting all forms of sports development, traditional and digital alike, for the advancement of our nation,” he said.
Go then formally closed his co-sponsorship, saying, “For these reasons, I wholeheartedly co-sponsor this resolution. Congratulations to Aurora Gaming PH. Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino, at mabuhay ang e-sports ng Pilipinas. Maraming salamat po, Mr. President!”
