Senator Bong Go was recognized for his continuing support for public health initiatives as Cancer Warrior PH convened local leaders, health implementers, and advocacy groups during its World Cancer Day 2026 activities in Cainta, Rizal.
During the program, a representative delivered a message on behalf of Go. The speech focused on the significance of World Cancer Day as an opportunity to reinforce shared responsibilities in addressing cancer care and health access, particularly for families facing financial and emotional strain due to illness.
“As we observe World Cancer Day, we are reminded that access to timely, affordable, and compassionate healthcare remains a shared concern for many Filipino families—especially those facing cancer. Events like this help keep the conversation going and strengthen cooperation among advocates, communities, and public servants,” the veteran legislator said.
The speech went on to reiterate the seasoned lawmaker’s continuing focus on health-related programs and measures, particularly those intended to make medical assistance more accessible at the community level.
“No Filipino should feel left behind when seeking care and support during difficult times.”
“Senator Bong Go continues to advocate for health programs and measures that aim to bring medical assistance and essential services closer to patients, particularly those with serious and long-term illnesses such as cancer. His support for health initiatives is rooted in the belief that no Filipino should feel left behind when seeking care and support during difficult times,” the representative stressed.
The message highlighted the principle that health services should be accessible regardless of a patient’s economic situation, reflecting an approach that places emphasis on inclusivity and patient-centered care.
Addressing cancer patients and survivors directly, the statement acknowledged the role of personal stories and lived experiences in shaping health advocacy and policy priorities.
“Your strength gives meaning to these efforts and serves as a constant reminder of why health advocacy must remain a priority.”
“To our cancer patients and survivors, please know that your stories matter. Your strength gives meaning to these efforts and serves as a constant reminder of why health advocacy must remain a priority. Many continue to draw inspiration from your courage and determination,” the senator said.
The message underscored how patient narratives continue to inform advocacy efforts and reinforce the urgency of improving systems of care, from early detection to treatment and post-care support.
The speech also conveyed his response to the recognition conferred by Cancer Warrior PH, framing the award as encouragement to continue working with organizations and advocates pursuing similar objectives.
“Senator Bong Go also extends his sincere appreciation to Cancer Warrior PH for the recognition being given today. He accepts this honor with humility and sees it as encouragement to keep working alongside advocates and organizations that share the same goal of improving health access for our people. I am eternally grateful for this recognition, but with or without this award, I will continue to serve my fellow Filipinos, especially the cancer patients, with utmost care and respect,” the representative added.
The closing portion of the message expressed gratitude to the organizers and partners involved in the campaign, while acknowledging their role in raising awareness and supporting Filipino families affected by cancer.
“Maraming salamat po, and we commend Cancer Warrior PH for its dedication to raising awareness, supporting patients, and standing with Filipino families on this continuing journey. Mabuhay kayong lahat!” the message ended.
Go was selected as a recipient of the Cancer Warrior Award in recognition of his support for initiatives that seek to bring health services closer to communities.
He has consistently pushed for increased funding for the Cancer Assistance Fund to help ease the burden on patients and their families. As Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, Go regularly raised concerns about the affordability of cancer care and the need to strengthen existing assistance programs.
His position aligns with the objectives of the National Integrated Cancer Control Act, or Republic Act No. 11215, which was signed into law by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019. The measure established the National Integrated Cancer Control Program, designed to provide affordable and accessible cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship services.
Under the law, the Department of Health administers the Cancer Assistance Fund, which offers financial aid to eligible cancer patients nationwide.
