Senator Bong Go’s Malasakit Team recently went to Jaro, Iloilo City, to provide aid to fire victims.
In his message, Go, also known as Mr. Malasakit because of his compassionate and dedicated service to his countrymen, underscored the importance of life and the bayanihan spirit in recovering from adversity.
“A lost life is a lost life forever.”
“Malungkot pong masunugan. Subalit nandirito tayo para magtulungan. Sabi ko nga, ang gamit nabibili, ang pera kikitain. Subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Importante buhay po tayo,” the veteran legislator said.
In this connection, the seasoned lawmaker stressed the need to have safe and disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every municipality and city across the country for displaced families as mandated by Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which the senator principally authored and co-sponsored.
“Bigyang prayoridad ang evacuation centers dahil batas naman po ito kesa nasasayang sa flood control na ginagawang gatasan ng iilan po.”
“Ako po ay nakikiusap sa mga kasamahan ko sa gobyerno. Bigyang prayoridad ang evacuation centers dahil batas naman po ito kesa nasasayang sa flood control na ginagawang gatasan ng iilan po,” he said.
Go is likewise pushing for the passage of Senate Bill No. 415, or the proposed Rental Housing Subsidy Program, which he refiled in the 20th Congress. This measure aims to support displaced families through rental assistance while they transition to permanent housing in the aftermath of disasters, if enacted.
In coordination with local officials, his Malasakit Team successfully conducted a relief operation in Barangay Our Lady of Lourdes Barangay Hall in Jaro, Iloilo City, benefiting 39 families. They received financial assistance, food packs, a gallon, snacks, shirts, vitamins, fans, basketballs, and volleyballs.
“Tandaan natin, minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan o tulong na puwede natin gawin sa ating kapwa ay gawin na natin ngayon dahil hindi na tayo babalik sa mundong ito,” Go concluded.
