The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) earmarked P251 million to compensate insured farmers for losses caused by Typhoon Tino.
In a report to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., PCIC President Jovy Bernabe said the agency’s rapid assessment conducted from November 4 to 7 covered insured farms in nine regions—from Region IV-A and IV-B through Caraga—and found that 32,247 insured farmers were affected by the typhoon.
“One-third of the affected farmers, or 10,352 individuals, came from Region VIII.”
Nearly one-third of the affected farmers, or 10,352 individuals, came from Region VIII (Eastern Visayas), which includes the provinces of Biliran, Leyte, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte.
“The total estimated insurance payment amounts to about P250.6 million,” Bernabe reported.
“Damages were valued at P56.7 million for rice, P42.3 million for corn, and P74.3 million for high-value crops.”

Bernabe added that PCIC staff had been instructed to continue assisting affected farmers and to expedite the processing of damage claims.
The bulk of insured damages—amounting to P169.9 million—were assessed in Central Visayas (Region VII), Negros Island Region, and Eastern Visayas.
Tiu Laurel said PCIC’s rapid assessment formed part of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) broader recovery efforts, which include providing inputs such as seeds, fingerlings, and feeds to help farmers quickly recover.
“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is doing everything to ease the burden of Tino’s victims, especially our farmers and fisherfolk,” the agriculture chief said.
The DA has also activated its Quick Response Fund and Survival and Recovery Loan Program to further support affected farmers and fisherfolk.
