DEPED PROMOTES 16,025 PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently promoted 16,025 teachers.

This was done through the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system implemented under the leadership of Education Secretary Sonny Angara.

The names of 41,183 teachers have been submitted to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for processing of the next batch of promotion.

“This reclassification is more than a promotion. It is a validation of decades spent teaching, mentoring, and believing in learners.”

“This reclassification is more than a promotion. It is a validation of decades spent teaching, mentoring, and believing in learners even when I feared retiring as a Teacher III after 21 years of service,” Teacher Claire Eusebio said. From Teacher III, Eusebio has been promoted to Teacher VI at Magsaysay Elementary School in the Tabuk City Division.

The experience of Eusebio mirrors the struggles of thousands of teachers who have long been working with limited room for promotion in their career. Now, she is among the teachers in the country who were given the maximum three-salary-grade jump under the ECP.

Angara said teachers like Eusebio are the reason the Marcos administration is giving priority to reforms in the teaching sector.

“Ang responsibilidad namin ay alisin ang sagabal at tiyaking gumagalaw ang sistema para sa kanila.”

“Maraming guro ang matagal nang handang umangat. Ang responsibilidad namin ay alisin ang sagabal at tiyaking gumagalaw ang sistema para sa kanila,” the education chief said.

“Dapat nararanasan nila ang pag-angat habang nasa serbisyo pa. Sabi nga ng Pangulo, dapat walang magreretirong Teacher I,” the education head added.

Based on the records of DepEd, from 41,183 teachers lineup for promotion, 18,007 are eyeing the avail of the maximum three-salary-grade leap.

Meanwhile, 29,017 are up for promotion for one or two salary grade while the DepEd is clearing the regional backlogs.

For the three-step advancements, 3,171 have been promoted from Teacher I to Teacher IV, 3,374 from Teacher II to Teacher V, and 11,462 from Teacher III to Teacher VI. There are 16,883 Teacher I set for promotion to Teacher III.

To ensure they will continue to be promoted, there will be an expansion in training and preparation programs of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines.

Those in the Teacher I position who will soon be retiring will be given priority for reclassification and promotion.

DepEd also recognized the important contributions made by Human Resource Management Officers, Teachers Credential Evaluators, and Human Resource Merit Promotion and Selection Board members in the smooth implementation of the ECP system.

“I thank President Marcos Jr. for leading reforms that restored dignity and hope to the teaching profession,” Eusebio said.

“My sincere appreciation to Secretary Sonny Angara for transforming that vision into a real opportunity where the fruit of our hard work is finally recognized,” she concluded.
