DEPED TV TO AID STUDENTS IN CALAMITY-HIT AREAS

The Department of Education (DepEd) has assured students affected by natural disasters of access to learning through the expanded operation of DepEd TV.

As part of DepEd TV’s revitalization, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. and Solar Learning will partner with DepEd to come up with broadcast-based instruction. This will ensure that learning will continue even while in evacuation centers or in communities affected by calamities.

“Ngayong taon, ipagpapatuloy natin ang ating mga pagsisikap na magkaroon ng mas maraming opsyon para maipagpatuloy ang edukasyon tuwing may kalamidad. Gagamitin natin ang DepEd TV upang mas maging accessible ang pagkatuto—lalo na sa mga lugar na madalas tatamaan ng bagyo,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.

DepEd TV is available in different platforms like Digital Free TV, Cable TV, at Direct-to-Home (DTH) Satellite.

Digital Free TV signals are available in the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Baguio, Naga, Legazpi, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Zamboanga, through BEAM Channel 31 and SBN Channel 21.

DepEd TV can also be watched via SkyCable Channel 3 in Metro Manila, Sky TV in different provinces and Member Cable Operators nationwide. It is also available at  Cignal (Channel 146) and Satellite TV (Channel 182) via Direct-to-Home (DTH) Satellite platform.

Knowledge Channel currently airs 16 hours of pre-recorded K–12–aligned instructional videos in Filipino, Math, English, Araling Panlipunan, and Science. The contents of these programs have been submitted to the Learning Systems Strand in preparation for the full revitalized launch of DepEd TV.

“Bahagi ang inisyatibang ito ng mas malawak na layunin ng Kagawaran na tuparin ang adhikain ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos—ang matiyak na tuloy-tuloy ang dekalidad na edukasyon, anuman ang kalamidad na ating haharapin,” said Secretary Angara.

As part of the preparation before officially launching the program, DepEd will begin airing the DepEd TV bug version and will conduct a review of the programming grid.

This will ensure the program will be in sync with the daily log of teachers and will be useful during class suspension and no-class days.
