Rail lines MRT-3 and LRT-2 have placed dedicated student lanes in each station to allow seamless movement of students availing of 50% fare discounts.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered rail lines MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 to eliminate queueing at stations and avoid inconveniencing passengers.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the government must ensure efficient movement of passengers at transport hubs by establishing effective platform management, especially for students who want to avail fare discounts.
“Kabilin-bilinan ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na paginhawain natin ang buhay ng mga komyuter,” Dizon said.
“Dapat hindi rin natin pahirapan ang pag-verify ng student discounts para walang pila.”
“Dapat hindi rin natin pahirapan ang pag-verify ng student discounts para walang pila at mabilis ang daloy ng mga student passengers para hindi sila ma-late sa kanilang eskwelahan,” the transport chief added.
The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), which operates the LRT-1 line, meanwhile, will implement queuing systems to manage passenger flow and minimize delays for students availing discounts.
Last June 20, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), upon orders of the President, directed the three major rail lines to increase student discounts from 20% to 50% effective until 2028.
