The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished the construction of two retaining walls to help mitigate flooding in Barangay Highway and Barangay San Rafael, Dulag, Leyte.
The flood mitigation structures along the Calbasag River, were built to block the overflow of water from the river into the road and prevent soil erosion along the riverbanks.
Completed in April 2025, the ₱84.4-million project covers the construction of a total of 376.6 linear meters of flood control structures with a height of 5.8 meters and driven with structural sheet piles.
“The project was carried out to ensure all-weather access along the nearby road and guarantee the safety of adjacent properties during typhoons and heavy rains.”

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan commended the DPWH Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office for the completion of the retaining walls that will not only protect lives but also uplift the growing economy in Dulag, Leyte.
“Flood control projects like this supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ initiative, which promotes the overall well-being of communities through public infrastructure that responds to the needs of the people, especially those greatly affecting their livelihood and safety,” Bonoan stressed.
