The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed three major revetment projects to serve as flood defense of seaside and riverside areas in Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and Masbate Provinces.
Aligned with one of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Build, Better, More Program objective to enhance infrastructure for disaster resilience and community safety, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that the projects completed early this year now prevent flooding in Barangay Tabuco, Naga City, Camarines Sur; Barangay Bitan-o, Sorsogon City; and Barangays San Antonio and Diotay, Balud, Masbate.
“The implemented project in Naga City is a 1.08-kilometer flood mitigation structure.”
DPWH Region V Director Virgilio Eduarte said that the implemented project in Naga City is a 1.08-kilometer flood mitigation structure which was completed with driving steel sheet piles, hand-laid rock embankment, concrete foundation, grouted riprap construction, and concrete slope protection.

In Sorsogon City, the completed project is a 470-linear meter seawall and 226.9-linear meter river control that benefits a coastal community close to Sorsogon City Coastal Road.
In Masbate, the newly-built project is a 260-linear meter flood control structure or 130-meter on each side of the river dividing Barangay San Antonio and Diotay.
The flood control projects amounting to P340.45 million were carried out by the DPWH Camarines Sur 3rd, Sorsogon 1st, and Masbate 2nd District Engineering Offices.
