Acting on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for tighter market watch, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) inspected a supermarket in Guadalupe to ensure that Undas-related goods remain adequately supplied and fairly priced.
During the inspection, DTI monitoring teams checked the prices and supply of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs), particularly candles and bottled water. All 224 stock keeping units (SKUs) of these monitored items were found within the DTI’s suggested price list.
DTI Secretary Cristina Roque said the activity reaffirms the agency’s commitment to maintain stable prices, noting that retailers have agreed to hold off price increases until the end of the year.
“We commend our retailers for upholding fair prices in the interest and welfare of our consumers.”
“We commend our retailers for upholding fair prices in the interest and welfare of our consumers,” Roque said.
“It will be a win-win for all.”
“Rest assured that the DTI will continue to diligently monitor the markets to keep the prices affordable while also ensuring that our businesses remain sustainable and profitable–so that it will be a win-win for all,” the trade chief added.
Since the start of October, the DTI has inspected 19 flower stores to verify price compliance and encourage vendors in maintaining reasonably priced products.
The DTI chief, in her capacity as Chairperson of the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC), also led the wet market monitoring together with DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr., to check the price situation for rice, meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables in 10 stalls.
This builds upon the collaborative efforts between the DTI and DA in monitoring markets to ensure stability of the price and supply of various basic commodities.
Throughout the year, the DTI and DA conducted a total of 23 joint monitoring activities across different areas in the country, intending to keep a close watch on price movements and effect programs to stabilize the prices.
