DY LEADS HOUSE CELEBRATION OF WORLD HIJAB DAY

Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III underscored the importance of religious freedom, women’s empowerment and inclusive economic growth as pillars of a stronger and more united Philippines, as the House of Representatives commemorated World Hijab Day and opened the Halal Festival at the Batasang Pambansa.

In a speech, Dy said World Hijab Day reminds Filipinos that identity and faith deserve respect in a country shaped by diversity and mutual understanding.

“World Hijab Day is a reminder that identity deserves respect, and that faith—when freely chosen and freely expressed—is a source of strength, dignity, and purpose. For many Muslim women, the hijab is a symbol of conviction; a personal choice that reflects faith, self-worth, and confidence,” the veteran legislator said.

The seasoned lawmaker from Isabela stressed that respect for religion and culture is ultimately respect for human dignity, especially in a diverse country like the Philippines.

Dy also emphasized women’s central role in shaping society and building fairer communities.

“When women are empowered to be fully themselves—without fear of discrimination or misunderstanding—our communities become stronger, more compassionate, and more fair. Where everyone is given equal opportunities,” he stressed.

The House chief said inclusion must also translate into economic gains, particularly for Muslim Filipino communities.

“A halal-friendly Philippines opens doors to new opportunities.”

“At the same time, today’s Halal Festival reminds us that inclusion also has an economic dimension. A halal-friendly Philippines opens doors to new opportunities—supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises, strengthening trade, and enabling Muslim Filipino communities to participate more fully in national growth,” Dy said.

“In essence, inclusive development is progress felt by all,” he added.

Dy commended the Committee on Muslim Affairs, chaired by Maguindanao del Norte Representative Sittie Shahara “Bai Dimple” Mastura, and government partners, saying their work shows how collaboration grounded in respect and understanding can turn shared values into concrete action.

He reaffirmed the House’s commitment to laws that protect freedoms and promote equality.

“As Speaker of the House of Representatives, I assure you that the House remains committed to advancing laws and policies that protect religious freedom, promote gender equality, and foster inclusive economic growth. These are not separate goals. They are part of one vision for a stronger, more united Philippines,” Dy said.

According to the Speaker, the ultimate goal is a society where every Filipino is seen, heard, and given the opportunity to thrive.

“Sa huli, ang ating mithiin ay isang bayan kung saan ang bawat Pilipino—anumang pananampalataya, kultura, o kasarian—ay may lugar, may boses, at may pagkakataong umunlad,” he said.

The Speaker called on Filipinos to see diversity not as a barrier, but as a source of national strength.

“Maraming salamat po, at nawa’y magsilbing paalala ang araw na ito na anuman ang katayuan mo sa buhay, hindi ito hadlang sa pagkakaisa,” Dy concluded.
