ERC LEADS PREPS FOR PH’S AERN 2026 CHAIRMANSHIP

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is leading the Philippines’ preparations for its chairmanship of the ASEAN Energy Regulators Network (AERN) for the 2026–2027 term with the goal of strengthening the country’s role in regional energy cooperation within ASEAN.

During the recent ASEAN Special Senior Officials’ Meeting on Energy (Special SOME) in Panglao, Bohol chaired by the Department of Energy (DOE), ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan presented the proposed activities and general work direction of AERN, highlighting priority areas for implementation and coordination among ASEAN energy regulators.

ERC’s leadership role highlights the Philippines’ growing contribution to regional energy governance and regulatory cooperation.

Through AERN, ASEAN regulators work together to align policies, share best practices, and address common challenges in the energy sector.

The AERN platform supports regional efforts to ensure stable power supply, promote energy security, and deliver long-term benefits to consumers across ASEAN.

The Philippines succeeds Malaysia, which held the AERN chairmanship in 2024-2025. This year, the 17th AERN Meeting will be hosted in Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga within the third week of May.
