ERC STARTS PH GRID CODE PUBLIC CONSULTATION

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) conducted a hybrid public consultation on the Proposed Philippine Grid Code (PGC) 2026 Edition at the ERC Main Office.

At the opening of the consultation, ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan underscored the significance of the proposed amendments to the Grid Code and encouraged stakeholders and participants to actively take part in the discussions.

“The ERC is committed to an open, transparent, and participatory rule-making process for the country’s power sector.”

Juan highlighted the vital role of stakeholder inputs in shaping a responsive and forward-looking Philippine Grid Code, as well as the Commission’s commitment to an open, transparent, and participatory rule-making process for the country’s power sector.

The consultation brought together representatives from generation companies, transmission and system operators, distribution utilities, industry associations, and other stakeholders.

Participants were given the opportunity to raise comments, seek clarifications, and share recommendations on the proposed updates.

Discussions focused on enhancing grid reliability and resilience, facilitating the integration of emerging technologies such as renewable energy and energy storage systems, and ensuring technical standards remain consistent with international best practices.

The ERC will be holding additional hybrid public consultation for Mindanao stakeholders on January 16.

To allow broader participation nationwide, the ERC also announced holding two additional hybrid public consultations for Visayas stakeholders January 14 and for Mindanao stakeholders on January 16. These sessions will allow both in-person and virtual participation from stakeholders in the respective regions.

The ERC noted that the proposed PGC 2026 Edition forms part of its continuing efforts to ensure a secure, reliable, and efficient transmission grid amid the evolving needs of the Philippine electricity industry.

All inputs gathered during the series of public consultations will be carefully reviewed and taken into account as the Commission moves toward the finalization of the updated Philippine Grid Code.
