Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso pledged stronger safety measures in Malate Koreatown, assuring the Korean Embassy of a secure environment for Korean tourists, investors, and residents.
Domagoso made the commitment during a congratulatory luncheon hosted by Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang-hwa and the Manila Koreatown Association.
The Korean Ambassador noted that the Korean community has two concerns: safety and security.
“The Korean Embassy is preparing to promote Malate tourism to Korean nationals.”
Lee said the Korean Embassy is preparing to promote Malate tourism to Korean nationals.
He also emphasized that stability in the area is key to attracting more visitors and investments.
“I have instructed the Manila Police District, particularly the Malate Police Station, to intensify police visibility in the area to ensure peace and order.”
In response, the mayor said he has instructed the Manila Police District (MPD), particularly the Malate Police Station, to intensify police visibility in the area to ensure peace and order.
“We assure you, the Korean Embassy, of a safe and secure Malate Koreatown in Manila for Korean tourists, investors, businessmen and citizens,” he said.
Lee also welcomed Domagoso’s assurance and praised the city government’s open-door policy.
“With your strong leadership, we are happy with your Open-Door policy, Mayor,” the Korean envoy told him.
Domagoso added that the city will prioritize improvements in street lighting in Malate as soon as possible to make Koreatown brighter, safer, and more welcoming for all who live, work, and visit there.
