Pampanga Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. filed House Resolutions No. 598 and 599 recognizing Kayla Noelle Sanchez and Gian Christopher Santos for winning in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games held in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Binabati ko ang ating mga atleta mula sa Mabalacat na nagpamalas ng galing sa SEA Games sa Thailand, at muling nagpakita ng galing ng Kapampangan at ng Pilipino sa mundo,” Lazatin said.
“Binabati ko ang ating mga atleta mula sa Mabalacat na muling nagpakita ng galing ng Kapampangan at ng Pilipino sa mundo.”
Sanchez, who hails from Mabalacat City, bagged a total of eight medals – three gold medals in the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay, Individual Women’s 100m Freestyle, and Women’s 100m Backstroke; and five silver medals in the Women’s 200m Freestyle, Women’s 50m Freestyle, Women’s 50m backstroke, Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay, and Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
Sanchez, who hails from Mabalacat City, bagged a total of eight medals.
Meanwhile, Santos, also from Mabalacat City, won the country’s first silver medal in the Men’s 200M Individual Medley Swimming.
Santos holds the Philippine Junior National Record for 400m Individual Medley and is a two-time World Juniors qualifier for the Philippines, having competed in Lima, Peru in 2022 and Netanya, Israel in 2023.
The 33rd SEA Games officially opened on December 9 and will run until December 20, 2025.
The SEA Games is a biennial multi-sport event participated in by athletes from 11 countries of Southeast Asia. It originated from the Southeast Asian Peninsular (SEAP) Games founded by Burma (now Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
The first SEAP Games was held in Bangkok from December 12 to 17, 1959, with more than 527 athletes and officials from Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, South Vietnam, and Thailand participating in 12 sports.
