Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman led the ceremonial launch of the second route of Cebu’s Love Bus Libreng Sakay in Cebu City recently.
A collaboration of key government agencies, the initiative provides convenient, safe, and sustainable public transport options while supporting Cebu’s growing tourism and economic activities.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon stressed that the launch of the Love Bus fulfills the President’s SONA commitment last July and expands the once Metro Manila–based initiative into Visayas and Mindanao.
The new Love Bus now provides free rides during peak weekday hours and all day on weekends and holidays.
“While the original Love Bus concept was just for Metro Manila, I want this in all major cities all over the country.”
“The President wants to send a message that while the original Love Bus concept was just for Metro Manila, he wants this in all major cities all over the country. So, we’re very happy now we’re starting it. Now, tuloy-tuloy na ito,” Dizon explained.
The transport chief added that the program will deliver direct relief to commuters, with many workers and students saving up to ₱60 daily on fares—significantly easing the burden on minimum-wage earners. With an annual budget of around ₱125 million for Cebu alone, the initiative is considered a worthwhile investment that will be sustained throughout the remainder of the President’s term.
Frasco added that the Love Bus Libreng Sakay reflects the President’s promise to improve mobility for local and international tourists, noting that the program makes travel more comfortable and accessible while showcasing Cebu’s world-class destinations, such as its beaches, dive sites, and festivals.
“This will greatly boost Cebu’s tourism. The Love Bus provides locals and tourists with free transportation to various destinations. We extend our gratitude to the DOTr- Secretary Vince, Secretary Mina, and especially our President for fulfilling his SONA promise to revive the LOVE BUS project. It’s here now without delay, and we’re very thankful,” the tourism chief stressed.

Meanwhile, Pangandaman confirmed that ₱1.3 billion has been earmarked for 2026 to ensure the continued nationwide implementation of the Love Bus program, giving visitors even more reason to love the Philippines.
The revival of the iconic 1970s Love Bus underscores the Marcos Administration’s commitment to accessible and sustainable urban mobility.
Initially launched on the 01K route from Parkmall Terminal in Mandaue City to Urgello, Cebu City, the Love Bus Libreng Sakay has now expanded to a second line connecting AnjoWorld in Minglanilla to SM Seaside Cebu.
The service provides free rides during peak hours—6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
