A motoring executive lauded the leadership of Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso for restoring investor confidence and promoting a more transparent, business-friendly environment in the nation’s capital.
NXT Mile Motors, Inc. executive Paul Tionson made the remarks during the opening of the first Suzuki Auto dealership in Metro Manila, located along Otis, Manila.
Representing NXT Mile Motors and Suzuki Philippines, Tionson expressed gratitude to the city government for its reforms that have made investing and operating in Manila easier and more predictable.
“It really gives us, investors, confidence in the steps taken by the City Government.”
“It really gives us, investors, confidence in the steps taken by the City Government under your new administration: to cut the red tape, to promote ease of doing business, and to foster an environment that is transparent and conducive to business,” he said.
Tionson, who attended the City Development Council meeting on the Mayor’s first 100 days report, said the administration’s investment plan and policy direction inspired optimism among the business community.
“As investors, that’s all we can ask for. Nakakataas po ng kumpiyansa,” he added.
He noted that Suzuki Auto Otis is NXT Mile Motors’ first dealership in Metro Manila, and its location in Manila reflects renewed confidence in the city’s governance.
“Mas mataas ang level of confidence natin that the business will succeed, and we can be part of the progress that you and your administration are striving for,” Tionson said, pledging continued partnership with the local government.
In response, Domagoso welcomed Suzuki’s investment as a sign that businesses are once again placing their trust in the city.
“I’m happy and excited that businesses are coming back to the City of Manila,” the mayor said, adding in jest, “I wish that you would have more taxes to pay, dahil ang wish ko, maraming sales.”
He highlighted recent reforms that simplified zoning and permit processes, reducing requirements from 22 to 7 items for zoning clearance and permits, and cutting exemption categories from 15 to 5.
“Sometimes, the rules are outdated. I’m happy that we’re sending a message to the business community to trust again the City of Manila,” Domagoso said.
He also emphasized that economic opportunity is key to social stability, noting that when people have jobs and livelihoods, crime becomes less likely.
“Kapag ang tao ay may trabaho at may hanapbuhay, there is a low probability na makapamerwisyo siya ng kapwa tao.”
“Kapag ang tao ay may trabaho at may hanapbuhay, there is a low probability na makapamerwisyo siya ng kapwa tao,” Domagoso said.
“Mas maraming hanapbuhay, mas payapa ang pamayanan. That is the goal, the hard way of keeping the peace and order situation,” he concluded.
