MAYOR ISKO WELCOMES NEW CHINESE ENVOY TO MANILA

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso received Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan during a courtesy call that focused on Manila’s Filipino-Chinese heritage, public safety, and opportunities for local-level cooperation.

During the meeting, Domagoso welcomed the new envoy to Manila, noting that the city is home to the world’s oldest Chinatown in Binondo and highlighting the historic contributions of the Filipino-Chinese community to the city’s development.

The mayor assured the Ambassador that Filipino-Chinese residents, Chinese businessmen, and Chinese tourists are safe in Manila and are accorded the same protection and public services as all other city residents.

He also expressed openness to strengthening people-to-people engagement, business-to-business collaboration, and cultural exchanges between Manila and selected cities in China at the local government level.

Jing arrived in Manila on December 6, presented an open copy of his credentials on December 9, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro on December 10, and formally assumed his post on December 11 after presenting his Letter of Credence to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.

Prior to his posting in Manila, the ambassador served as minister and deputy chief of mission at China’s embassy in the United States and later as deputy director-general of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs from 2018 to 2021.
