MMDA PUSHES FOR 100% SMOKE, VAPE-FREE TNVS

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) expressed its full support to the call for 100% Smoke-Free and Vape-Free Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) during the ceremony held at the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy.

The event was organized by the Metro Manila Regional Tobacco Control Network led by the Department of Health, Metro Manila Center for Health Development.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory board (LTFRB) issued a Memorandum Circular No. 063, Series of 2019 ordering all public utility vehicles to display No Smoking and No Vaping Signage and prohibit the use of tobacco and vapor products inside PUVs and transportation terminals. A fine as much as P15,000 and cancellation of Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) await violators of the memorandum.

The Metro Manila Regional Tobacco Control Network is composed of various government and non-government agencies and aims to promote safer and healthier workplaces and public spaces.

Transportation Network Companies (TNCs), operators, drivers, and riders are obligated by the LTFRBC Memo to comply with and cooperate in the implementation.

Partners from Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Office, LTFRB, encourage TNVS operators, drivers, and riders to cooperate and help in pursuing healthier public places.

Representatives from InDrive, GoCab, Pure Ride, Angkas, Maxim, and other TNCs expressed their support and committed to include the policy in their respective booking apps.
