Senators and congressmen have approved the new charter of the Philippine Science High School System in the bicameral committee.
Bukidnon Representative Jonathan Keith Flores said the bill was “carefully and meticulously crafted to make sure the PSHS System will maintain its high-quality education standards while it grows to expand access to specific new areas”.
The new PSHS charter repeals all the existing PSHS System laws, updates the powers of the school’s governing board, and gives its officials six-year terms of office.
“Options for eight future campuses are provided in the measure, including one campus in Bukidnon.”
“Negros Island Region is given its own PSHS campus in the legislation. Options for eight future campuses are provided in the measure, including one campus in Bukidnon,” Flores pointed out.
The PSHS System now comprises 16 campuses, including the main campus in Quezon City.
“The new PSHS System charter also has a provision barring any future attempts to convert any high schools and add those into the PSHS System.”
“The new PSHS System charter also has a provision barring any future attempts to convert any high schools and add those into the PSHS System. This is one of the quality safeguards,” the legislator explained.
“The high quality of PSHS education cannot be sacrificed for unbridled growth and access expansion,” the lawmaker concluded.
