PRC WELCOMES ETHIOPIAN RED CROSS EXCHANGE VISITORS

To acquire first-hand experience and understanding of the Philippine Red Cross’ services and response efforts, as well as to discuss avenues for future collaboration, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society conducted an exchange visit.

“We have volunteers in our country and we’re here to learn volunteer management, how to register volunteers using databases, volunteer recruitment, and so on. The Philippine Red Cross is always there in every disaster, that’s leading by example. We’re excited to work together and share our experiences,” said Mohammed Deda, Head of Volunteers, Members, and Branch Affairs.

“The Philippine Red Cross is always there in every disaster, that’s leading by example.”

PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon and Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang warmly welcomed Deda; Dr. Addisalem Mulat, National Governing Board Member Youth Representative; and Kassahun Alemu, Senior Volunteers, Members and Branch Affairs Officer at the PRC National Headquarters.

Gordon inspired the delegates by saying, “If you want to grow your Red Cross Society, be intelligible. Be a leader; leadership is action, not a position. Nothing is impossible.”

“I’m a medical doctor and was moved by what the Philippine Red Cross has been doing for vulnerable communities. It’s very interesting to witness how they provide services through their blood facilities, hemodialysis center, molecular laboratories, and ambulance services,” Muslat said.

“You guys have a vision and make sure that it’s done; you walk the talk.”

“What I noticed about the PRC is you guys have a vision and make sure that it’s done; you walk the talk. The leadership of Chairman Gordon and Secretary-General Dr. Pang is truly impressive. All the lessons we have taken here will definitely be applied back home to improve our services,” the doctor added.

The delegates visited selected PRC Chapters, establishments, and vulnerable communities that the PRC serves.
