SAMAR GOV’T TURNS OVER HOUSES TO EX-REBELS

The Provincial Government of Samar formally turned over 17 housing units to former rebels turned peace advocates on the occasion of the 39th Founding Anniversary of the 801st Brigade of the Philippine Army.

In her message, Governor Sharee Ann Tan said, “To our former rebels, thank you for choosing a more peaceful life.”

“You are the living witnesses to how your lives have been better since your return.”

“You are the living witnesses to how your lives have been better since your return,” Tan added.

“We plan to expand the Saad nga Balay housing initiative to benefit more former rebels.”

The lady governor expressed plans to expand the Saad nga Balay housing initiative to benefit more former rebels. She encouraged those who have not yet surrendered to embrace a better future and rejoin mainstream society.   

In the event, seven additional housing units of the Saad nga Balay were handed over to the beneficiaries. This brings the total number of houses in San Jose de Buan 17. Each 150 sqm-house unit costs P250,000 to build.

Meanwhile, 10 newly completed houses in Calbiga were also turned over to their new owners. Each unit of this batch was constructed at a cost of P280,000.

The turnover underscores the continued commitment of the provincial government to sustain peace efforts by supporting former rebels as they rebuild their lives and communities.
