TULFO HITS MUNTINLUPA FACTORY LABOR DISCRIMINATION

Senator Raffy Tulfo deplored the discrimination among women workers at the bread and pastries section of MLM Foods Inc. in Muntinlupa City which he visited recently for a random inspection as the Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Labor and Employment.

“Women pay for their uniforms while men’s uniforms are free of charge.”

The senator also found out that women pay for their uniforms while men’s uniforms are free of charge.

Likewise, he shared that the holidays for female employees are not paid, unlike with men.

According to Article 133 of the Labor Code of the Philippines, as amended, “It shall be unlawful for any employer to discriminate against any woman employee with respect to terms and conditions of employment solely on account of her sex.”

Likewise, discrimination includes “payment of a lesser compensation, including wage, salary or other form of remuneration and fringe benefits, to a female employee as against a male employee, for work of equal value…”

Tulfo is set to hold a consultative meeting about this issue and other labor-related concerns he encountered with his random inspections on different companies and establishments facing complaints.
