The 17th Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar (STIES XVII), organized by the UPLB Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO), successfully brought together students, professors, and professionals from different academic institutions last February 28, 2026. This year’s seminar focused on the expanding role of Industrial Engineers in building stability in the middle of chaos and facilitating recovery toward sustainable progress.
Centered on the theme “RISE: Responsive Industrial Systems for a Sustainable Era,” this year’s seminar highlighted the importance of adaptability and resilience in addressing the complex challenges of the world today. With modern complexities ranging from socio-economic issues to technological advancements, the event was able to emphasize how Industrial Engineers play a crucial role in designing systems that are efficient, sustainable, and socially responsible.
The defining feature of this year’s installation of STIES was its enhanced program structure, wherein participants were motivated to engage more by participating in insightful activities and discussions. The first half of the session featured interactive and topic-centered workshops, led by esteemed speakers, which incorporated hands-on activities that put theoretical knowledge to actual practice. In the latter half, the seminar transitioned to its traditional format of talks and discussions where industry experts and professionals shared their knowledge on current trends, innovations and issues in Industrial Engineering. These talks initiated meaningful conversations on how the discipline continues to evolve in response to changing global demands.
