607 CEBU FAMILIES RECEIVE FREE HOUSING – NOGRALES

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, together with officials from the National Housing Authority (NHA) and LGU beneficiaries, turned over 607 free housing units in Cebu province last June 30, 2021, in what he described as “a product of the sustained efforts of the Duterte administration to provide assistance for Cebuano families affected by Typhoon Yolanda.”

The virtual turnover was held at San Remigio Heights, Barangay Tambongon, San Remigio, Cebu under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project.

Nograles likewise took occasion to highlight the partnership with private sector groups such as Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) which have committed to assist in efforts at creating livelihood opportunities in the resettlement areas.

Nograles mentioned that in his two years as chairperson of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Unified Implementation and Monitoring of Rehabilitation and Recovery Projects and Programs in Yolanda-affected Areas, they have distributed 5,521 free housing units in Region 7.

The Malacañang official acknowledged the excellent performance and full support of the NHA and participating LGUs, citing the efforts of NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada, Regional Manager Jude Juntilo, employees of NHA Region 7, as well as Mayor Mariano Martinez, Vice Mayor Alfonso Pestolante, municipal councilors and other local officials and employees of the San Remigio LGU.

Nograles likewise took occasion to highlight the partnership with private sector groups such as Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) which have committed to assist in efforts at creating livelihood opportunities in the resettlement areas.

“We’re steadily realizing our advocacy of fighting hunger and poverty with focused programs in the Yolanda-affected areas. Kailangan natin magtulungan. Government cannot and should not monopolize these development efforts, that’s why we have actively engaged the private sector in this massive campaign to eradicate hunger and poverty.”

For his part, Mayor Martinez thanked President Duterte, Nograles and the NHA for ensuring that the government’s assistance agenda reaches Cebu, stressing that they would do their corresponding part to deserve the help received and to build productive families and communities in Yolanda-affected areas.
