DTI MONITORS SUPPLY, PRICES OF SCHOOL SUPPPLIES

Prices of school supplies remain accessible and competitively priced following a special price and supply monitoring activity done by the Department of Trade and Industry in Baclaran, Pasay City.

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque led the monitoring together with Fair Trade Group Assistant Secretary Regino Mallari, Jr.

The officials checked the availability, quality, and prices of essential school supplies sold by retail stores, public markets, and ambulant vendors.

During the monitoring, the DTI team verified inventory levels, product information, and retail costs of high-demand items, including notebooks, pad paper, pencils, ballpens, crayons, rulers, erasers, and sharpeners.

“There are sufficient stocks of school supplies, with all monitored items found priced within the suggested ranges in the DTI’s ‘Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies’.”

The activity supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to shield consumers from high costs and assist Filipino families with back-to-school expenses by keeping essential school supplies fairly priced.

“We will continue the nationwide market monitoring to ensure that school supplies remain available and that businesses comply with fair pricing and consumer protection laws,” Roque stressed.

As part of its consumer protection efforts, the DTI earlier released a price guide listing the suggested prices of essential school items on the DTI website.

“We are warning businesses against unjustified price increases and other unfair trade practices.”
