MAYOR ISKO MORENO TURNS OVER P62M SUBSIDY TO PLM

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso turned over a P62.5-million subsidy check to the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) covering the university’s second quarter funding for 2026.

The check was received by PLM President Atty. Domingo “Sonny” Reyes Jr. during the turnover ceremony.

The release marks continued progress in the city government’s effort to restore regular and adequate funding to PLM, which had flagged financial strain due to delayed and incomplete subsidies from the previous administration.

Before Domagoso’s first term, PLM’s annual subsidy stood at P250 million, which he raised to P360 million—a level that was subsequently reduced to P210 million under the previous administration.

The city government has committed to restoring and increasing PLM’s subsidy as part of long-term plans to expand the university’s capacity to produce medical professionals for public service.

In February 2026, the city broke ground on the PLM College of Allied Health Sciences Building inside the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center complex, a project backed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“The new building would allow PLM to scale up hospital-based training for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals—expanding the university’s annual student capacity from 300 to 5,000.”

PLM has a long track record of strong licensure examination performance, with its College of Medicine ranking among the country’s leaders and its Nursing and Physical Therapy programs recording near-perfect to perfect passing rates and numerous topnotchers in national exams.
