ERC, MITSUBISHI TACKLE PALAWAN MICROGRID DEV’T

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) welcomed representatives from the Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI) for a meeting and interview in support of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) – Sustainable and Inclusive Development through Effective Microgrids (SEIDO) Project on Microgrid Development.

The MRI delegation met with ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan and Executive Director Nancy Aurora Fajardo to discuss regulatory and policy considerations relevant to the development of microgrids in Palawan, particularly in advancing energy access and improving electricity services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

“We particularly discussed advancing energy access and improving electricity services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in Palawan.”

The engagement forms part of MRI’s research activities under the ERIA-SEIDO Project, which seeks to examine opportunities, challenges, and policy interventions that can support sustainable energy development and strengthen power supply systems in Palawan.

During the discussion, the ERC chief shared insights on the Commission’s regulatory initiatives and its role in fostering a reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity sector.

The exchange also underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, research institutions, and development partners in promoting innovative energy solutions for island and off-grid communities.

“The ERC remains committed to supporting efforts that contribute to inclusive and sustainable energy development for the benefit of Filipino consumers,” Juan stressed.
