Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante offered prayers for newly elected Senate President Win Gatchalian and the entire Senate leadership, saying the country needs wisdom, discernment, and principled leadership now more than ever as it faces important national challenges, including the impending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Abante, who also serves as senior pastor of the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Ekklesia (MBBE), said those entrusted with positions of national leadership must be guided by both constitutional duty and moral conviction.
“With the Senate set to undertake one of the most solemn responsibilities assigned to it under the Constitution, we pray that its leaders will be guided by wisdom, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to truth and justice,” the veteran legislator said.
“The nation is watching.”
“The nation is watching. At moments such as this, our country needs principled leadership—leaders who will place the interests of the Filipino people and the rule of law above all other considerations,” the seasoned lawmaker added.
He offered the following prayer from Scripture for the new Senate leadership:
“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.” (Philippians 1:9-10, KJV)

“Those words capture my prayer for Senate President Gatchalian and for every member of the Senate—that they may have both the wisdom to discern what is right and the courage to do it,” Abante said.
He added that public trust in democratic institutions is strengthened when leaders faithfully discharge the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Constitution.
“I am confident that Senate President Gatchalian understands the weight of that responsibility and will lead with the seriousness and impartiality that the times require.”
“The Senate has an important role to play in preserving public confidence in our institutions. I am confident that Senate President Gatchalian understands the weight of that responsibility and will lead with the seriousness and impartiality that the times require,” Abante stressed.
He also congratulated Gatchalian on his election as Senate President and expressed hope for continued cooperation between the Senate and the House of Representatives in advancing measures that benefit Filipino families.
Abante noted that Gatchalian had previously sponsored the measure declaring the second Thursday of January as National Baptist Day, a law recognizing the contributions of Baptist churches and institutions to Philippine society.
“As we congratulate Senate President Gatchalian, we also lift him and the entire Senate in prayer. May God grant them wisdom, humility, and the strength to faithfully carry out the duties entrusted to them for the good of the nation,” he concluded.
