DOT: FREE JEEPNEY RIDES FOR ASEAN SUMMIT

The Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have joined forces to provide free jeepney rides in select parts of Metro Manila as the country ramps up preparations for the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings.

The initiative is expected to deliver material benefits to Filipino commuters while serving as a platform to feature Philippine destinations.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angrara-Mathay, who was designated Vice Chair for Operations of the National Organizing Committee, emphasized that this initiative will bring the ASEAN Summit closer to Filipinos not only through promotions but, more importantly, in terms of assistance.

The free rides will begin on November 5 and will run for 10 days until November 14, 2026.

The free rides will begin on November 5, following the ceremonial signing of a tripartite agreement and will run for 10 days until November 14, 2026.

A total of 30 modern jeepneys will be deployed to serve two major routes: SM Fairview to Buendia (North Route) and Sucat to Baclaran (South Route), with 15 vehicles assigned to each route.

Both routes will operate from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. The North route will have eight one-way trips, while the South service will have 10.

“A whole-of-government approach is important in implementing initiatives that deliver meaningful benefits to Filipinos while supporting the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit.”

Meanwhile, DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor, representing Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, highlighted the importance of a whole-of-government approach in implementing initiatives that deliver meaningful benefits to Filipinos while supporting the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit.

All jeepneys are dressed up to bear images of iconic Philippine tourist attractions and experiences to maximize visibility of the regional event and promotion of the country’s tourism assets.
