The Department of Education (DepEd) thanked the provincial government of Agusan del Sur for its “Libreng Sakay” transportation program and free tourism activities for the delegates of the 66thPalarong Pambansa.
According to DepEd, these show the concern and warm welcome of the province to the student-athletes.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara lauded the officials of Agusan del Sur led by Governor Santiago Cane Jr. for exerting effort in making things easy and meaningful for the thousands of athletes, coaches, teachers and spectators who will take part in the national athletic meet from May 24 to May 31.

Under the transportation program of the province, delegates and spectators can have free rides in designated e-bus and tricycle stationed in the 36 playing venues in Bayugan City and the towns of Bunawan, Esperanza, Talacogon, Prosperidad, and San Francisco.

Apart from the “Libreng Sakay”, delegates can also avail of the free tours to the different tourism destinations and cultural landmarks in Agusan del Sur and nearby Surigao del Sur.
They can visit Tugonan Falls, Bega Falls and Ecotourism Park, Puting Buhangin Cave, Agusan Provincial Museum, Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Toog Centennial Tree, and the other eco-tourism and agricultural sites in the province.
Also part of the program are tourist destinations in Surigao del Sur, including the Bretania Group of Islands and Enchanted River, under the partnership of the provincial governments of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.
The free tours began in May 17 until May 22 and will resume on May 27 until July 1.
The program will handle the transportation and entrance fees of the participants.
According to Angara, the initiative shows how the local government can give a hand in making the experience of Palarong Pambansa delegates memorable and learner-centered.
“Naipapaalala nito sa ating mga kabataan na ang bawat kompetisyon ay oportunidad din para makakita ng bagong lugar, makilala ang iba’t ibang kultura, at makabuo ng pagkakaibigan habang nahuhubog ang disiplina at sportsmanship,” the education chief concluded.
