ALTER TO PLAY FOR STATE U

UP Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) Director for Operations Bo Perasol has confirmed that the UP Fighting Maroons have secured the commitment of Fil-American Volcano Vista Highschool center Sean Alter, a 6’9″ center who will wear maroon in S86 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Perasol on Sunday said that the development “is the product of fruitful discussions between Sean, his family, our coaching staff, the UPMBT management team, and alumni involved in the program.”

“There is a shared belief in what we are working to accomplish in UP, and we are humbled that Sean is going to be part of a team that is committed to upholding the values of our University,” said the former UP Fighting Maroon.

According to Coach Gold Monteverde, “the team will benefit with the addition of a player with the work ethic and the desire to win displayed by Sean.”

“We understand that the team’s success is tied to the proper development of our players, kaya commitment talaga namin sa coaching staff na tutukan ang growth at training ng mga rookies na papasok sa team.”

UPMBT Manager Atty. Agaton Uvero revealed that management together with alumni of the University “continue to work to provide Coach Gold and our players with the tools and resources they need to be competitive.”

Uvero admitted “may limitations tayo sa resources kasi UP lang ang state university sa UAAP, pero sa tulong ng mga alumni at ng UP community ginagawa natin ang makakaya natin para tugunan ang pangangailangan ng team.”

Nowhere to go but UP Chairperson Jed Eva III said alumni and supporters of the University “have played an integral part in the efforts of our varsity programs to encourage athletes to consider playing for UP.”

“Some of the gains are very visible. The Diliman campus is home to a new Varsity Training Center, a world-class football pitch, and a first-rate baseball field. So hopefully in the next few months we can channel these efforts to help not just our basketball team but the other varsity sports programs as well.
