BACOLOD STARTS ‘PABAHAY’ PROGRAM ORIENTATION

Bacolod City government’s Task Force Pabahay conducted a series of housing and Pag-IBIG orientations to informal settler families (ISFs) of barangay 7, 41, Banago, Sum-ag, Bata, and Villamonte who wish to avail the housing program of Mayor Albee Benitez.

The orientations were led by the Pabahay Community Organizers and were spearheaded by Pabahay Program Coordinator Engr. Joel Vergara.

“First, the land is owned by the government. They (beneficiaries) will not be charged for it, they can utilize the land on a usufruct basis.”

Hundreds of ISFs signified their intentions to avail the pabahay program which would also open employment opportunities.

“Right now, we are targeting to build within three years a minimum of 10,000 units,” Benitez said.

According to the mayor, the “Pambansang Pabahay Para Sa Pilipino” has three components.

“First, the land is owned by the government. They (beneficiaries) will not be charged for it, they can utilize the land on a usufruct basis,” he explained.

“Second, there’s a subsidized interest rate which, based on the Pag-IBIG policy, all socialized units will be charged only 3 percent interest,” Benitez stressed.

“Third, there will be a subsidy for units under the program,” he added.

First batch of beneficiaries will be screened as recommended by the Pabahay team for Pag-IBIG loan and matching of four identified sites.

The Information and Education campaign staff of the Department of Public Services also held Solid waste management discussion along with the housing orientations.

The series of orientation and educational drive continues on the next succeeding months aiming to slate all barangays of the city.
