BERNOS LAUDS PHILHEALTH’S MATERNITY BENEFITS

Solid North Party-list Rep. Ching Bernos lauded the announcement of expanded PhilHealth maternity benefits starting April 30, saying the development “will help ensure the health and welfare of expecting mothers and their children.”

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Wednesday announced the expanded Philhealth benefits, which includes the increase in coverage for normal delivery to P29,000 from P9,750; and P58,000 from P37,000 for birth via caesarian section.

In addition, Philhealth will now cover eight prenatal checkups, up from the previous four, along with three follow-up visits after birth, as well as vaccinations and laboratory tests.

Bernos underlined the importance of women gaining easier access to maternal care.

She said that the provision of these benefits would encourage expecting mothers to go to health institutions for proper care and childbirth, thus minimizing health risks and potential death.

“Marami sa ating mga kababayan ang umiiwas na tumungo sa mga ospital at iba pang health institutions para sa mga serbisyong kaugnay ng kanilang pagdadalang-tao dahil mas magastos ito. Sa tulong ng expanded Philhealth benefits ay may mas madaling access na ang kababaihan sa mas ligtas na paraan ng panganganak,” the solon said.

“With greater benefits provided by government, we give families peace of mind. Childbirth is already financially straining for families, so government support through Philhealth could be the lifeline to ensure that they do not fall into debt because of it.”
