BHW PARTY LIST: TRAIN BARANGAY FIRST RESPONDERS

Many barangays will soon have more people they can mobilize to respond to health emergencies and disasters and help out in the conduct of primary health care services, according to Barangay Health and Wellness (BHW) Party-list Representative Angelica Natasha Co.

“The maiden Basic Life Support session will be on September 14, 2023, for 50 to 100 target participants to whom training certificates will be awarded. The session kicks off a multiple-part and multiple-themed training program with activities to be held at various localities nationwide,” Co said.

The legislator also said there will later be training on first Aid, disaster preparedness and response, and HIV awareness.

“These training sessions are designed to produce BHW Youth Community Partners who will be among multiplier forces as support to barangay health workers and Barangay Health Emergency Response Team.”

“These training sessions are designed to produce BHW Youth Community Partners who will be among multiplier forces as support to barangay health workers and Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERTs),” said the lady lawmaker who is vice chair of the House committee on health and chairperson of the committee on the welfare of children.

“Energetic, enthusiastic, at idealistic ang mga kabataan. Kaya magiging mahalagang dagdag sila sa mga maglilingkod sa kani-kanilang barangay,” she said.

“BHW Youth Community Partners will be given one-year accident insurance. Those who serve actively will also get educational assistance every six months.”

Co added active BHW Youth Community Partners “will be given one-year accident insurance. Those who serve actively will also get educational assistance every six months. They will also receive a t-shirt, ID, and lanyard from the BHW Party-list.”

“Kailangan natin ng first responder teams lalo na sa mga barangay dahil kadalasan hindi alam ng mga tao kung paano maglapat ng first aid kapag merong health emergency sa kanilang tahanan o pamayanan, kaya tuloy dead-on-arrival na sa ospital ang mga isinusugod doon, o ‘di kaya’y napapabayaan ang mga sugat dahil hindi nalinis ang mga ito ng kapamilya o kasama sa bahay na maalam sa first aid,” she stressed.

Considering that the BHW training program is meant to give barangays first responders, Co committed to support and co-author House Bill 7075 of Bohol (Third District) Congresswoman Alexie B. Tutor.

HB 7075 seeks to systemically create first responder teams in barangays, towns, and cities within the framework of the bill—the proposed Disasters and Emergencies Management Act.
