Senator Bong Go reiterated the need for stronger fire prevention, disaster preparedness, and emergency response measures as he extended assistance in Burauen, Leyte.
Go emphasized that government support for communities affected by fires should go beyond immediate relief, stressing the importance of investing in prevention, preparedness, and response systems to protect lives, livelihoods, and property.
“Mahalaga rin na palakasin natin ang prevention, preparedness, at response para maiwasan ang pagkawala ng buhay at ari-arian.”
“Hindi lamang agarang tulong ang kailangan ng mga pamilyang nawalan dahil sa sunog. Mahalaga rin na palakasin natin ang prevention, preparedness, at response para maiwasan ang pagkawala ng buhay at ari-arian,” the veteran legislator said in a message.
“Sa mga kababayan nating naapektuhan ng sunog, huwag po kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Nandito lang po kami at handang tumulong sa abot ng aming makakaya habang unti-unti kayong bumabangon,” the seasoned lawmaker added.
The senator’s Malasakit Team facilitated the distribution of government assistance at the Conference Room of the Burauen Municipal Hall, where a family received support. His office also provided a grocery pack, shirt, pen, and basketball as additional assistance.
Go thanked the local government of Burauen and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Helen Lomahan for helping facilitate the activity and ensure that assistance reached the intended recipient.
As part of his legislative advocacy for stronger fire protection, Go is the principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act No. 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, which provides for the acquisition of modern fire equipment, expansion of the BFP workforce, and specialized training for firefighters.
He also principally authored and co-sponsored RA 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates the establishment of permanent and disaster-resilient evacuation centers that can provide safe temporary shelter to Filipinos displaced by calamities and emergencies.
Go likewise filed Senate Bill No. 173, which seeks to establish a Department of Disaster Resilience to strengthen the government’s capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
Through these measures, he continues to push for a more proactive approach to disaster management—one that strengthens communities before disasters strike while ensuring timely assistance and support when emergencies occur.
