Secretary Mark Villar said the expansion of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, also known as the Rockwell Bridge, into a two-way four-lane bridge is expected to greatly improve vehicular movement between the two highly urbanized cities of Metro Manila.

According to DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil Sadain, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge Project involves the replacement of an old existing steel truss bridge with a prestressed concrete rigid frame bridge (with V-shape piers) having a 4-lane concrete deck slab of 506.46 lineal meters.

“The project is one of the two grant bridges from the People’s Republic China. The other bridge is known as the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge Project connecting the historic Walled City of Intramuros and Manila’s commerce and trade district of Binondo,” Sadain explained.

The construction of a new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge as well as the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge is being implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Roads Management Cluster 1 under the leadership of Project Director Virgilio Castillo.
