Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano reaffirmed his support for the welfare and transformation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) as he brought assistance and a message of faith during his annual birthday visit to Taguig City Jail.
“We want to do more because alam naming hindi pa tapos ang Diyos sa buhay ninyo,” Cayetano told thousands of PDLs during his visit.
The outreach continued the veteran legislator’s 15-year tradition of sharing his birthday celebrations with PDLs.
The seasoned lawmaker, whose birthday falls on October 28, distributed 3,900 health kits containing personal hygiene supplies and snacks, while 4,900 meals were delivered and distributed ahead of his visit on October 30.
Speaking to the PDLs, the senator acknowledged that everyone wants to do good but can struggle to sustain their efforts.
“Lahat po tayo gustong gumawa ng mabuti.”
“Lahat po tayo gustong gumawa ng mabuti. Kaya lang minsan, umuurong tayo nang umuurong,” he said.
Cayetano encouraged them to remain willing to change despite setbacks and trust that God continues to work in their lives.
“He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the time of the Lord Jesus.”
“He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the time of the Lord Jesus,” he told the PDLs, citing Philippians 1:6 from the Bible.
“Kung magkamali man tayo… ang sabi po sa Bibliya, kukumpletuhin Niya ang gawain, ang trabaho. Pero kailangan, gusto natin,” Cayetano added.
He earlier marked his birthday on October 28 by extending his outreach to PDLs at the Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory through a medical caravan that provided free medical consultations, diagnostic examinations, and medicines. The PDLs also received hygiene kits and food packs.
Cayetano also extended his birthday outreach to orphaned children, teachers, and pastoral staff of Bethesda Ministries International, a faith-based child-caring ministry in Itogon, Benguet, which has long been part of his birthday and Christmas traditions.
