CEBU CITY GOV’T STARTS VACCINATION OF EMPLOYEES

The city government of Cebu began inoculating all employees of the Cebu City Hall against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) starting on Thursday until the weekend.

This, after Acting Mayor Michael Rama announced that Christmas bonus would only be given to vaccinated personnel.

“We already have said that Thursday and Friday and I was bringing the idea with help of the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) to do it on Saturday and Sunday. We will have vaccination here at City Hall, this social hall, caucus room and even our session hall will be utilized for the employees’ inoculation,” Rama said.

“The city will inoculate city hall workers in a departmentalized manner.”

The city will inoculate city hall workers in a departmentalized manner, he said, adding that those who are working off-site would get their vaccine jabs at their respective offices.

“The vaccinators should go to their office and have the vaccination right at their compound.”

“Why should they come here if they are that many. The vaccinators should go to their office and have the vaccination right at their compound,” Rama said in Cebuano.

He instructed Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, head of the City Health Department, to work with the Vaccination Board and the EOC for the smooth inoculation of city government workers.

Rama said the massive vaccination of City Hall employees is not mandatory in nature but he is pushing it to protect them against COVID-19.

“As I have said, I can’t imagine having employees in a government unit which calls for the people to get vaccinated and yet our own employees don’t want to get vaccinated for one reason or another,” he said.

Rama also clarified his earlier statement that Cebu City Hall employees would only receive the P20,000 Christmas bonus this year once all of them have received their COVID-19 vaccine.

The policy earned the ire of a labor group, but Rama underscored that City Hall employees should set themselves as an example for the local residents.

The city government currently has more than 5,000 regular, casual and job order employees.
