DA-NFA: PH HAS SUFFICIENT RICE BUFFER STOCK

The Department of Agriculture – National Food Authority (DA-NFA) highlights its vital role in achieving country’s food security during its 51st founding anniversary recently.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose message was delivered by 

Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, reminded the agency of its mandate anchored on maintaining sufficient rice buffer stock sourced from Filipino farmers. 

“You have remained steadfast in maintaining a buffer stock of rice and palay, especially during times of emergencies and calamities.”

In his message, the President extended thanked the dedicated individuals of the DA-NFA who have served the nation by ensuring the stability, affordability, and safety of the country’s staple food supplies.

“Even in the midst of challenges that grapples our agriculture sector, you have remained steadfast in maintaining a buffer stock of rice and palay, especially during times of emergencies and calamities,” the agriculture chief said.

He added that NFA has consistently found best solutions without compromising the needs of farmers and retailers. 

Under the current administration, various programs are being implemented to address issues related to the price stability of essential commodities. For rice, the President has directed stronger law enforcement against smugglers, hoarders, and those undermining efforts to ensure food security.

“I am optimistic in the positive impacts that will be carried out by the NFA Modernization Program.”

Marcos is banking on the success of the Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry in the Philippines (SARAI) Project, as the Department continues to intensify efforts in providing smart and sustainable solutions for a more productive and proactive farming. 

“I am optimistic in the positive impacts that will be carried out by the NFA Modernization Program,” he said.

Marcos also applauded the agency’s efforts to make the ceremonial signing of the NFA’s credit line with the Landbank and Development Bank of the Philippines a reality.

Meanwhile, NFA Administrator Roderico Bioco urged the DA-NFA employees to celebrate their anniversary with hope and enthusiasm, emphasizing their commitment to rice buffering and ensuring food in the country.

“Let us continue to deliver the mandate of the NFA,” Bioco said.

He said that the DA-NFA will double the effort and be accessible to its clients 24/7.

“This is the time for the DA-NFA na ipakita ang gilas natin na kaya nating makamit ang mga target natin,” Bioco concluded.
