DENR, TESDA OPEN TAGUIG COLD CHAIN INNOVATION HUB

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), inaugurated the Cold Chain Innovation Hub Building in Taguig City.

The CCI Hub, which is a project funded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization-Global Environment Facility (UNIDO-GEF), is the physical platform of the Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines (FCC).

DENR OIC Undersecretary Ernesto Adobo Jr. said the unveiling of the CCI Hub manifests the “strong partnerships for the environment that result in successful projects that can provide sustainable livelihood to more Filipinos”.

“The CCI Hub will generate more green jobs in the country.”

“The CCI Hub will feature technology showcases from contributors around the world that will be used to train local technicians to upgrade their skills, increase their competencies and competitiveness in the job market, thereby, generating more green jobs in the country,” DENR-FASPS Director Al Orolfo explained.

“While cold chains are vital for the economy, they must be developed in a sustainable and climate-friendly way.”

Orolfo pointed out that while cold chains are vital for the economy, it must be developed in a sustainable and climate-friendly way that is aligned with the country’s commitment to the Montreal Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

The event also showcased other technologies from industry contributions, such as Epta’s Hydrocarbon Freezer and Chiller Display Cases for Commercial Food Retail, Vestfrost Solutions’ R600a Solar Driven Refrigerator, and Magic-Aire Industries Inc.’s Selection of Tools and Machines.

These models are part of the initial batch of equipment, which shows energy-efficient and climate-friendly refrigeration with low to zero global warming potential, that will be showcased in the CCI Hub.

More equipment and refrigeration systems are expected to arrive in batches in the CCI Hub by September, all of which exemplify “next-generation” cold chain solutions.
