The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will utilize the sediment trapping project of Malolos City Government in Brgy. Pamarawan, Malolos City, Bulacan as an alternative coastal protection measure against storm surge to prepare for possible flooding in the coastal areas of North Manila Bay.
This alternative measure will be implemented following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to invest in nature-based solutions.
“Pinaplano na namin papaano ito [sediment trapping unit] ire-replicate throughout North Manila Bay towns.”
“Sabi ng Pangulo, aksyon na tayo. Pinaplano na namin papaano ito [sediment trapping unit] ire-replicate throughout North Manila Bay towns of Hagonoy, Paombong, Masantol, Macabebe, all the way to Sasmuan,” Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.
“Kailangan din natin ng nature-based solution.”
The President also directed the DPWH to partner with countries and the private sector to expand the search for a permanent solution to flooding in coastal areas.
“Hindi pwedeng puro na lang tayo konkreto. Kailangan din natin ng nature-based solution,” Dizon stressed while inspecting the pilot sediment trapping project in Brgy. Pamarawan, Malolos City.
Joining the public works chief in the Bulacan inspection were Netherlands Ambassador to the Philippines Roderick Wols, Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad, and Haskoning Philippines Inc. Director Trevor Morrish-Hale.
