DOH, LUNG CENTER PARTNER UP FOR NAT’L TB DAY

The Department of Health (DOH), together with the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP), observed the 2023 National Tuberculosis Day recently through a partnership health promotion and service delivery event dubbed as “TB at HIV Tuldukan, Tara KonsulTayo!”

This initiative, held in collaboration with the LCP, is aimed to provide accessible screenings to the community, offering individuals a chance to assess their TB status and take charge of their well-being.

“It is also a testament to the shared dedication of healthcare professionals, community advocates, and the DOH in ensuring the well-being of every Filipino,”

“The theme ‘TB at HIV Tuldukan, Tara, KonsulTayo!’ sends a resounding message that proactive health measures can make a significant impact in preventing the spread of TB and HIV. It is also a testament to the shared dedication of healthcare professionals, community advocates, and the DOH in ensuring the well-being of every Filipino,” Health Secretary Teddy Herbosa said.

The event highlighted healthy habits and health-seeking behaviors through early consultations as vital steps in addressing the country’s rising number of TB and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases.

Booths with immersive health educational activities promoted available screening services for TB and HIV, as well as counseling services for quitting smoking and vaping through the DOH Quitline 1558.

As part of KonsulTayo, the event emphasized that early health-seeking and consultation not only improves treatment outcomes but also contributes to the overall well-being of our communities.

The community activation was led by LCP Executive Director Vincent Balanag, and Chief of Public Health and Domiciliary Division, Dr. Jubert Benedicto along with various DOH officials like Herbosa, Chief-of-Staff Undersecretary Gloria Balboa, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire, and Assistant Secretary Beverly Lorraine Ho.

The event also featured informative talks by medical professionals, shedding light on the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with TB and HIV.

“Our goal is clear – the DOH remains committed to aiding Filipinos, especially individuals with Tuberculosis, in further lowering TB cases in the country.”

“In line with one of the marching orders of our President – our goal is clear – the DOH remains committed to aiding Filipinos, especially individuals with Tuberculosis, in further lowering TB cases in the country,” Herbosa said.

“Moreover, we are firm in providing everyone with a safe, quality, and caring healthcare service through the establishment of improved health centers and integrated healthcare networks dahil sa Healthy Pilipinas…bawat buhay mahalaga!” the health chief added.

The DOH remains steadfast in its mission to create a healthier nation through awareness, early detection, and accessible healthcare.
