DOT BACKS GUIMARAS COVE PROMENADE WALKWAY PLAN

Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco recently welcomed the courtesy visit of Province of Guimaras Governor Joaquin Carlos Rahman Nava and Lone district of Guimaras Representative Ma. Lucille Ledesma-Nava.

The officials bared the exciting projects aimed at spurring economic and tourism activities in Guimaras, primary of which are plans for a road network and a promenade walkway that will go around the Alubijod Cove area shared among three municipalities including Nueva Valencia, the province’s identified center for tourism where its most popular tourist attractions and beach resorts are concentrated.

“The province of Guimaras has great potential being surrounded by other tourism powerhouses in the region.”

Frasco shared her excitement over the plans for Guimaras, noting the “great potential of the province being surrounded by other tourism powerhouses” in the region and the importance of diversification of tourism products to attract visitors.

“I think the idea of constructing this fronting your cove is very attractive especially to atong mga (our) excursion cruises,” the tourism chief added, mentioning the demand of cruise providers for additional islands to include in their offerings.

Emphasizing the commitment of the DOT under the Marcos Administration to promote not just the country’s key destinations but bring attention as well to emerging ones, the tourism head enjoined the participation of Guimaras to the upcoming Central Philippines Expo which will be held in Iloilo this June.

“The expo,” she said, “will invite regional stakeholders, directors, some key travel and tourism partners from Luzon, rest of the Visayas, and Mindanao to converge in Region 6, and subsequently, join familiarization tours that will bring them to the destinations within the region and allow them to come up with tour packages that can be dovetailed with other offerings.”

“I-maximize nato atong domestic tourism because we’re seeing that while we’re recovering in terms of international arrivals, we’re now at 2.3 million, domestic tourism is flourishing already.”
