DPWH COMPLETES ILOILO-CAPIZ BYPASS ROAD – VILLAR

Better access to the northern towns of Iloilo has been made possible with the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) recent completion of a 1.75-kilometer bypass road along junction Iloilo-Capiz East Coast-Capiz Road in the town of Barotac Nuevo.

Secretary Mark Villar said that the travelling public are now utilizing the recently opened four-lane, 13.4-meter wide concrete cement paved bypass road with 1.5-meter paved shoulders and slope protection structures.

Citing reports from DPWH Western Visayas offices, Villar said that the project was completed in the amount of P136.29 million under the DPWH Regional Office 6 from 2017 to 2019, and under the DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) from 2020 to 2021.

“It diverts approximately 2,500 daily motorists from Barotac Nuevo’s town proper.”

“This road shortens travel time to the northern part of Iloilo by serving as an alternate route. It diverts approximately 2,500 daily motorists from Barotac Nuevo’s town proper, giving a quicker and easier way of reaching various destinations not just in Iloilo but also in Aklan and Capiz,” the public works chief said.

Aside from transport improvement, the bypass road is also seen to spur better economic activities and more livelihood opportunities among the people in Barotac Nuevo and other towns in the fourth congressional district of Iloilo.
