DPWH COMPLETES P15B PROJECTS IN REGION 8 – VILLAR

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction, rehabilitation, improvement, and maintenance of 311.5 lane kilometers of national roads, 12 bridges, and 99 flood-control structures in Region 8 under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

This was announced by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, citing DPWH Regional Office’s Year-end Report disclosing that the Department was able to accomplish numerous projects in the Region despite restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“DPWH Regional Office 8 completed P6.5B worth of national road projects, P1.2B worth of bridge projects and P3.3B worth of flood-control projects.”

Based on the report, DPWH Regional Office 8 has completed P6.5 Billion worth of national road projects, P1.2 Billion worth of bridge projects, and P3.3 billion worth of flood-control projects.

DPWH also facilitated the completion of 328 Region 8 local infrastructure projects amounting to P3.9 billion composed of multi-purpose and school buildings, local roads and bridges, flood control and drainage, and water systems.

In convergence with the Department of Education, DPWH also built and rehabilitated 279 classrooms costing P866.6 million; nine projects costing P218.1 million worth of structures built in convergence with Department of Defense; 77 structures repaired costing P1.76 billion in under National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund; 220 units of rainwater collector systems installed public buildings costing P55.8 million; three new public buildings costing P68.2 million and two public markets costing P20 million under Contingent Fund and the Department of Interior Local Government (DILG).

DPWH, in partnership with the DOT, DTI, and DOTr, constructed and upgraded 73.68 lane kilometers of access roads leading to tourist destinations, industrial corridors, and airports.

Additionally, DPWH in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Transportation constructed and upgraded 73.68 lane kilometers of access roads leading to tourist destinations, industrial corridors, and airports costing P1.35 million; another 71.7 lane kilometers of farm-to-market roads costing P709.5 million with funding from the Department of Agriculture.

“I would like to commend our Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide for the timely delivery of these infrastructure projects that will be the main player in our country’s economic recovery from COVID-19,” Villar stressed.
